Bobi Wine's documentary falls short at the 2024 Oscars, 'Oppenheimer' takes home seven prizes

Recently, video director and filmmaker Sasha Vybz, born Ian Akankwasa, predicted that before the end of this month, Uganda would win her first-ever Oscars Award at the 96th Academy Awards celebrations that went down on 11th March 2024 in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.

Sasha Vybz’s prediction came to light following the fact that Ugandans had so much hope in Bobi Wine’s  “The People’s President” documentary bringing the award home.

However, by the end of the awarding ceremony, where Hollywood’s finest were rewarded with golden statuettes, the Ugandan documentary movie had fallen to “20 Days in Mariupol” which emerged as the winner.

The biggest winners on the night were “Oppenheimer” who bagged seven gongs, including some of the most coveted awards — best picture and best director.

Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy won Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor for their roles in the film, while the movie also took home awards for cinematography, editing, and score.
