Jamaica’s first capital, Spanish Town has a rich reggae/dancehall history. It has produced artistes such as Dennis Walks, Lieutenant Stitchie, Papa San, Lady G. And Hitman Walle.

A veteran of the Spanish Town sound system circuit, Hitman Walle has been recording music since the 1980s. It was during that period when the region’s dancehall movement exploded, thanks mainly to Lieutenant Stitchie and Papa San.

They, along with Major Worries, another Spanish Town native.were Hitman Walle’s biggest influences.

“It was a great vibes going to dances in ‘Spain’ back in those days, ’cause you would see the artistes them close and up-front. That was a joy,” he said

He launched his career with songs for Spanish Town-based People’s Choice Records. His early songs included Man A Cuss Woman and Khaki. Later, Hitman Walle did songs for Mallory Williams, a respected keyboardist/singer who toured with Dennis Brown and Grammy winners Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers.

It was Williams and saxophonist Tony Green who produced Dance Reggae Cha-Cha-Cha, which is his most commercially-successful song to date.

Hitman Walle has recorded six albums — the latest being Lion in The Jungle, which was released in March, 2023. It is produced by Montego Records out of New Mexico.

Lion in The Jungle has 12 songs including Pretty Brown Girl and Right Time.

In July, he moved into new territory by collaborating with rappers DJ APS, MC JD and Indian Tiger on Pump Up, his first hip hop song. Hitman Walle welcomed the opportunity to step outside of his comfort zone.

“As an artiste, I try my best to be versatile because that’s what I learn going to dances and seeing people like San and Stitchie do. So, I can build lyrics on the spot,” he said.
