Bobi Wine is the only celebrity in Uganda, the rest are masqueraders – Frank Gashumba

Outspoken social and political analyst, Frank Gashumba came out to claim that despite the many public figures and artists we boost as a nation, we have no celebrities except singer-turned-politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine.

Speaking at a Radio Talk Show, Mr. Frank Gashumba emphasized that Bobi Wine is the only celebrity in Uganda, whether you hate or love him.

He went ahead to note that the rest of the individuals who claim to be celebrities are just media personalities or masqueraders in showbiz. He wondered how someone would claim to be a celebrity when he or she cooks using a broken charcoal stove.

Frank Gashumba also advised the rest of the artists to leave Bobi Wine alone asserting that he is now in his league and that the rest of the so-called celebs can’t match him at anything.

We don’t have celebrities in Uganda. These you see claiming to be celebrities are just media personalities. The only person who has been elevated to celebrity status is Kyagulanyi. The rest are just impersonators and masqueraders. You cook using a broken charcoal stove and you also call yourself a celebrity?

Whether you love Bobi Wine or not, he is the only celebrity we have in Uganda at the moment. My advice to artists is that you have to leave Bobi Wine alone. He is now in his league. He spends his time with the real elite celebrities like Beyonce as he spends his time in New York and England.

Frank Gashumba made the statements just a few hours after Bobi Wine missed out on the Oscar award after his documentary “The People’s President” lost out to “20 Days in Mariupol” at the 96th Academy Awards celebrations that went down on 11th March 2024 in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
