Fik Gaza shares his humble beginnings as a turnboy before finding success

Trending artist Fik Gaza, real name Shafik Dangote has not had it easy in his rise to fame and once worked as a turnboy to afford a living.

With songs like Banana, Bukuta Bukuta, and Sanyu, Gaza Empire singer Fik Gaza has become one of the most sought-after artists in the Ugandan music space.

He has performed on the big stages the most recent one being at Davido’s “Timeless Concert”. He has also collaborated with some of the biggest artists in Uganda and Jamaica’s Konshens.

Everything seems to be going on well now but he did not have it all on a silver platter.

The younger Fik Gaza had to hustle hard to afford a living. As soon as he quit school, Fik Gaza was introduced to the hustle as a turnboy.

He remembers working on trucks, fixing their tyres, and lifting luggage on different cargo trucks en route to Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

He was later introduced to life as a taxi conductor and worked on the popular Kampala, Kamwokya, and Jinja road routes.

“I was once a turnboy working on those big trucks. We would go to Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda. I had a Rwandan friend who, upon realizing I was no longer going to school, introduced me to the taxi work as a conductor. I was working along the Kampala, Kamwokya, and Jinja road routes,” Fik Gaza told Sanyuka TV.
