Coopy Bly's parents' home demolished over land disputes

Gospel singer Coopy Bly has opened up about the troubles that his family is going through following the demolition of his parents’ home in Rubaga.

About mid-February, Coopy Bly shared a post asking his fans to consider putting his family in prayers especially his parents as all was not good.

Today, he has shared the full gist about how his father was forcefully dragged to jail over land wrangles. He notes that this has happened amid an ongoing court case that has been running before he was probably even born.

Coopy Bly notes people aided by police turned up at his parents’ home and forcefully evicted them, throwing their property outside the house before demolishing it.

I just wanted to write a quick post as I’ve been overwhelmed by everyone’s messages of concern for our family. For everyone asking what is happening, it’s a long story that I can’t fully get into now as it’s an ongoing court case that has been around since before I was even born!

The other week, thugs aided by police showed up at my parents’ home in Rubaga in the very early morning and forcefully and illegally evicting them from their home they built and we have lived in for the last over 20 years.

A lot of their belongings were thrown out and furniture was destroyed. During the commotion, my father was pulled to the side by the said court bailiffs saying they needed to explain something to him only to bundle him in a private car and drove him all the way to court!

While there, the lawyer repeatedly pleaded the attention of the presiding registrar to a standing court order by the same court on the case file!

However, to the absolute shock of my Dad and the lawyers, the presiding registrar said our case file had suddenly gone ‘missing’ from the court system and within minutes my father was sent to jail until the file could be found! A few hours later, the files were discovered on the same court system, and yet still my Dad wasn’t let free!

Within two days their house was completely demolished and my father still innocently spent over a week in Jail. Only after we had paid 20 million UGX cash, was my father let out of jail to come back to a demolished house, and has been in and out of court since trying to make sense of what happened and to hopefully get justice!

A lot of you would know my testimony of how my dad sacrificed 10 years of our childhood to go on kyeeyo work in the UK to build that house and finally move us out of the Katwe slums. I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love, concern, and support shown to my family, especially since I’ve been so far away.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers that justice will prevail throughout this nightmare and that the ongoing court issues are resolved quickly and fairly. We are handing this all to God as we look forward to finally being back home with family this week.
