The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, returned to Kampala on Tuesday afternoon after an official visit to Kigali, where he met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who was inaugurated for his fourth term on Sunday.

General Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, arrived in Kigali on Saturday to attend the inauguration. He was welcomed by General Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).

The delegation accompanying General Kainerugaba included Major General James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; Brigadier General Richard Karemire, head of the UPDF’s department of formal education, sports, and culture; Alexander Akandwanaho; and businessman Andrew Mwenda.

On Monday, General Kainerugaba and his delegation visited RDF headquarters in Kigali, where they discussed bilateral and regional security issues with General Muganga.

Later that evening, General Muganga hosted a dinner for the UPDF delegation at the Kigali Convention Centre, with General Birungi representing General Kainerugaba. General Kainerugaba returned to Kampala yesterday.
