Kingz – a group of young adults based in central Uganda has taken to social media platforms, primarily TikTok, to spread awareness of very meaningful causes.

“Kingz” (@kingz1281 on Tiktok), is made up of 18 members, men and women, who utilize their talents of dancing and entertaining, not for their benefit, but to bring attention to the ongoing issues in their local communities such as poverty among others.

According to statistics, around 41.3% of Ugandans are living in poverty as of 2024. This rate has increased by more than 10% since 2021. Since the beginning, Kingz has set their goal of giving back to their communities as a way to help the lives of those in need.

Whether that is financially; donating essential items; teaching dance; or most dear to them, spreading mental health awareness.

According to one member, plans for the Kingz include: building six water wells, a mental health center for all ages, and a community dance workshop. Nonetheless, it takes a village to make such ideas come to life.

With the platform Tiktok has provided, international outreach has been made very possible. Kingz has currently reached 279.3k followers. This represents an audience from countries in other parts of the world including North America, South America, Asia, and Europe.

TikTok’s live stream feature has given a safe space for Kingz to connect with this audience, while simultaneously raising funds through virtual gifts. While these gifts hold monetary value, Kingz uses GoFundMe as an alternative for their fundraising.

The group has raised £501 towards their goal of £5,000. The Kingz have a few other accomplishments as well as a certification under their belt.

The group has paid the tuition of over 5 students in nursery, primary, and secondary levels of education. Over 100 families have received donations of basic household items.

Notably, the Ugandan government has certified the group under the title “CBU Entertainment.” This grants the group legal authorization to receive donations and TikTok gifts
