Dancehall singer Tina, formerly known as HoodCelebrityy, sampled Dave Kelly’s legendary 1994 Pepperseed riddim on her new single, Lover Man, which was released on Thursday.

The new song also samples the hook from Nadine Sutherland and Terror Fabulous’ 90s Dancehall classic, Action.

The release of Lover Man follows her 2022 collaboration with Bounty Killer on the Buzz riddim, further signaling a resurgence of 90s Dancehall influence.

The Pepperseed riddim, produced by the legendary Dave Kelly, is a cornerstone of Dancehall history.

It featured a string of other hits, including Terror Fabulous’ Number 2, General Degree’s Mr. Do It Nice, and Daddy Screw, Louie Culture’s No Gyal, Things a Gwaan by Spragga Benz and Loving Excess featuring Wayne Wonder and Don Youth.

Upon its release, Action quickly gained local and international traction, particularly in North America and the UK, where there is a significant Jamaican population.

In the North American markets, Action successfully entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching a peak position of No. 43 in 1994.

Kelly, who is often hailed as the one of the greatest Dancehall producers of all time, is also responsible for crafting other seminal riddims such as Showtime, Joy Ride, and Bogle, which have defined the genre’s golden era.
