Ykee Benda has asked the Uganda National Culture Centre (UNCC) to stop Nigerians and Jamaicans with vulgar music content from performing in Uganda.

Since the end of of last week, the big talk in the local entertainment corridors has been about UNCC’s move to scrutinise Ugandan artists with vulgar music content.

The likes of Lil Pazo, Gravity Omutujju, Ritah Danchall, and Gloria Bugie among others have been highlighted by the statutory body as “vulgar and indecent” and asked for the ban of their content on national TV and radio stations.

Gloria Bugie

Ykee Benda commends the act but calls for UNCC to do the same to foreign music content that is consumed and distributed in Uganda, including stopping the vulgar artists from performing on Ugandan stages.

Below is Ykee Benda’s statement in full:

Ugandan Artists ;

  1. Dont forget we are africans and to have some limit on what we sing about on a moral stand point is very important, God has put grace on your life to shine brighter than many others in your family , represent them with some dignity.
  2. This business of trying to reap where you dint sow is costing us, ugandans love ugandan music sooo much, but they are woke now more than ever, those days two artists could fight in the bar, sing about the fight tmw n the next few months each organizes a concert n sells out, today you will be playing yourself, fans want their value for money, look at the shows that have sold out lately? Its either first time concert holders or the artist with the most hits in that year, ugandans will say thank you any day if you truly do the very best you can.

Wake up and put in the work, duka duka takyakola, theres serious quality now, take time in that kitchen and bring quality then call out your fans for a concert n see for youself.

UNCC Chaps;

Its not a bad move to try and protect our society from moral decay but while at it, please stop all the vulgar Jamaicans n Nigerians from performing here anything less is hypocrisy and that will simply over time down play your role in our business, don’t be busy bodies please.
