The Ugandan entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of Nicholas Mpiirwe Kamagala, popularly known as DJ Messe Bontwe.

The comedian and musician passed away in the United States, where he had been residing in pursuit of greener pastures.

Messe was a co-founder of the legendary Amarula Family comedy group, which he established in 1999 alongside Amooti Omubalanguzi and the late Paddy Bitama.

Before venturing into comedy, Messe was a talented singer in the ‘Hommies Band’ (Abaana be Kka). He gained fame in 1995 with the hit song Bamusakata, a collaboration with the renowned Ragga Dee.

News of his death was confirmed by fellow Ugandans living in America.

May his soul rest in peace!
