On Thursday, at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, the highly anticipated draw ceremony took place, pairing Ugandan clubs Kitara FC and SC Villa against formidable opponents in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Kitara FC, making their debut in continental competition, will face a yet-to-be-determined team from Libya in the first preliminary round of the Confederation Cup. The team has bolstered its squad with four new signings and will host the first leg between August 16-18.

SC Villa, another Ugandan club, will face Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) in the preliminary round of the Champions League. The first leg will be hosted by SC Villa between August 16-18, with the return leg scheduled for August 23-25.

Both teams will be looking to make history by advancing to the next rounds of the competition. Only two Ugandan clubs, KCCA and Vipers, have played in the group stages of the competition in the new format. However, SC Villa has a rich history in the competition, having played in the finals of the old-fashioned tournament in the early 90s.
