Katy Perry will be the recipient of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards’ Video Vanguard Award. She’ll perform a career-spanning medley of music during the ceremony at this year’s ceremony, set to take place September 11 at New York’s UBS Arena.

The honor arrives just as Perry prepares to release her sixth major-label studio album 143. The record is due out on September 20 via Capitol Records. In a statement shared last month, she said of the record: “I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message.”

After performing at the VMAs for the first time in 2009, Perry won Video of the Year in 2011 for “Firework,” a single from her hit album Teenage Dream. She also hosted the awards in 2017, which makes her the first person to host and receive both of the show’s hallmark honors. This is her sixth career VMA.

Outside of her VMA honors, Perry is one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, and one of only twelve artists ever to have surpassed 100 million certified sales units. Her albums and tracks currently hold a combined total of 115 billion streams.

“Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon,” Bruce Gillmer, a senior music executive at Paramount and Paramount+, shared in a statement to Billboard.“With her gamechanging creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages. Katy’s prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”

Last week, Perry shared the music video for “Lifetimes,” the latest single off of 143. She previously kicked off the rollout with “Woman’s World.”
