Joe Bogdanovich, organiser of Vybz Kartel’s first post-prison concert, is helping a fan get a frontstage view of the highly-anticipated event at the National Stadium on December 31.
The fan, Shadz Dadz, created a GoFundMe campaign on Friday after the tier-one ticket prices were announced.
“Just a long time Gaza Girl trying to get her centre stage ticket for Freedom Street!!” her description reads. “Back to life! Fresh from prison… Mi waa $1500 by a mawning.”
There are five tier-one ticket categories for the concert. The centre stage package costs US$1,500 and offers a drink inclusive experience closest to the action.
In five hours, Shadz Dadz raised US$915 from eight donors, with $200 coming from the event organiser himself.
Owner of a balloon decor company, Shadz Dadz shared her longtime allegiance to and advocacy for Kartel’s freedom in her Instagram story.
Her campaign is just one of 37 accounts created by Gaza fans hoping to experience the concert, with hers being the most supported. Needless to say, netizens had a lot to say.
“Closed mouths don’t get fed!!” one user wrote. “I respect it lol.”
“Is it really that deep?💀cause ain’t no way.”
“Unu please donate to muma so mi can watch her IG live from the comfort of my home.”
Another proposed, “Lol a hope when she get d 15 bills she sensible n buy a bleachers ticket ah pocket eh rest,” another person wrote.
There were also comments lauding her for steering clear of selling a body organ, a dark joke that circulates every time a high-profile artist performs in Jamaica, particularly at the National Stadium.
Tickets go on sale at 3 a.m. (Jamaica time) on August 31. Show co-organiser Skatta Burrell provided the purchase link on his Instagram page, further revealing that fans are free to request cabana packages once the tickets go live.
The tier-one ticket prices are:
Bleachers – US$125
Grandstand – US$300
In-field – US$400
Centre stage – US$1,500
Cycle Track – US$10,000
