Stop the vulgar Jamaicans and Nigerians too – Ykee Benda tells UNCC

Ykee Benda has asked the Uganda National Culture Centre (UNCC) to stop Nigerians and Jamaicans with vulgar music content from performing in Uganda.

Since the end of of last week, the big talk in the local entertainment corridors has been about UNCC’s move to scrutinise Ugandan artists with vulgar music content.

The likes of Lil Pazo, Gravity Omutujju, Ritah Danchall, and Gloria Bugie among others have been highlighted by the statutory body as “vulgar and indecent” and asked for the ban of their content on national TV and radio stations.

Gloria Bugie

Ykee Benda commends the act but calls for UNCC to do the same to foreign music content that is consumed and distributed in Uganda, including stopping the vulgar artists from performing on Ugandan stages.

Below is Ykee Benda’s statement in full:

Ugandan Artists ;

  1. Dont forget we are africans and to have some limit on what we sing about on a moral stand point is very important, God has put grace on your life to shine brighter than many others in your family , represent them with some dignity.
  2. This business of trying to reap where you dint sow is costing us, ugandans love ugandan music sooo much, but they are woke now more than ever, those days two artists could fight in the bar, sing about the fight tmw n the next few months each organizes a concert n sells out, today you will be playing yourself, fans want their value for money, look at the shows that have sold out lately? Its either first time concert holders or the artist with the most hits in that year, ugandans will say thank you any day if you truly do the very best you can.

Wake up and put in the work, duka duka takyakola, theres serious quality now, take time in that kitchen and bring quality then call out your fans for a concert n see for youself.

UNCC Chaps;

Its not a bad move to try and protect our society from moral decay but while at it, please stop all the vulgar Jamaicans n Nigerians from performing here anything less is hypocrisy and that will simply over time down play your role in our business, don’t be busy bodies please.

King Saha holds the record of filling up Hotel Africana to full capacity at a music concert.

The last time I held a concert at Hotel Africana my fans didn’t fit, many of them remained outside yet they had bought tickets.

Bebe Cool has reaffirmed his passion for music, stating that his career is driven purely by love and a commitment to setting high standards.

Speaking about his upcoming album yesterday at Next Park, the veteran artist revealed that the first single from the project is slated for release this Friday.

According to Bebe Cool, his focus is not on proving anything to anyone but on challenging himself to embrace new technology and push creative boundaries.

Gloria Bugie, Shakira Shakiraa, Ritah Dancehall called out by UNCC for indecent dressing

Creatives including Gloria Bugie, Ritah Dancehall, Shakira Shakiraa, have joined Lil Pazo and Gravity Omutujju on UNCC’s list of artists under scrutiny over vulgar music and indecent exposure during public appearances.

The Uganda National Culture Centre continues to ensure it preserves, promotes, develops, and popularises Ugandan culture.

From a dialogue meeting on Monday chaired by Phina Mugerwa, UNCC decided that the above mentioned artists face scrutiny for vulgar music and indecent dressing during public appearances.

Despite being invited for the dialogue meeting, Gravity and Lil Pazo were absent without communication.

The dialogue which took place at the Uganda National Culture Centre was aimed at engaging the two Musicians namely Mr. Gereson Wabuyi aka Gravity Omutujju and Mr. Mukasa Yasin aka Lil Pazo Lunabe whose music content is considered inappropriate, obscene and vulgar causing public outcry to address this situation that is deteriorating every other day.

Unfortunately they did not turn up and no apologies were received officially.

UNCC has asked music promoters and events organisers to pay attention and “not to allow naughty obscene artists to appear on any public platforms when they are inappropriately dressed.”

Bebe Cool announces new single ‘Circumference’ from upcoming album ‘Break The Chains’

Ugandan music icon Bebe Cool has announced that he will be releasing the first single, Circumference, off his upcoming music album dubbed “Break The Chains”.

On Monday evening, Bebe Cool made the announcement at a press conference held at the Next Media Park in Naguru.

Produced by Nigerian singer and producer PhilKeyz, Circumference will drop on Friday 13th December 2024 on different music streaming platforms.

Bebe Cool said that Circumference is yet another step to redefine his sound and try out new things to sell Ugandan music to the world.

In his address at the press conference, Bebe Cool highlighted that he did his new album out of passion and the endless pursuit to break boundaries with his music.

If anyone is out there asking, “Why now?!” Let me make this very clear—I’ve got nothing to prove. Not politically. Not culturally. Not financially. And certainly not musically.

I’m doing this purely because I love it. I have challenged myself to push boundaries with a new sound and professionalism that sets the bar where it should be.

Ugandan music has faced backlash from the media for the sheer lack of depth and overall creativity; however, Bebe Cool says with his new music, he will set new standards.

“This is an exciting time for the Ugandan music industry, because I’m here to set a new standard—the standard—of what it means to be an African music legend.”
