Paddy Man explains why old Christmas songs are more popular than modern ones

Renowned music producer Paddy Man, real name Paddy Kayiwa Mukasa, has weighed in on why old Christmas songs reign over the current ones.

He explains that growing up, they used to listen and vibe to older Christmas songs compared to the then-festival songs that were done by artists during that period.

Paddyman is, however, positive that the current Christmas songs done by today’s artists will likely also get airplay in the future stating that the old songs bring memories of how Christmas used to be celebrated.

Paddy Man

He doesn’t believe that the coming generations will keep on listening to the likes of Philly Bongole Lutaaya’s music forever.

I think when we were also growing up, radio stations never used to play Christmas songs of the then time. We also used to listen to Bonny M.

Currently, Philly’s music is the one being played and I think they are the songs that bring back the memories of Christmas for the past 15 years.

I believe when years go by, the current Christmas songs will get the airplay too in the coming years ahead. I don’t think they will keep on playing Philly’s music forever

He highlighted how Christmas is a season of merrymaking with family and meeting friends to have a good time.

NUP accuses Alien Skin and his gang of vandalizing party headquarters

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has issued a statement condemning an attack on their headquarters in Kavule, Makerere, allegedly led by singer Alien Skin and his gang.

According to the party, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at 3:15 am.

The statement details that Alien Skin’s group violated the party premises, threatened the security guard on duty, and defaced their walls with provocative graffiti.

NUP expressed regret over the actions, likening Alien Skin’s behavior to that of individuals who have previously been used to destabilize the people’s struggle.

It is regrettable that these brothers have learnt nothing from those who the regime and other detractors have used against the people in the past, including Sipapa, Sobi, Zebra, Kitatta, among others.

The party further noted that such incidents often resurface as the country approaches elections, with certain groups allegedly being used to commit crimes aimed at derailing the opposition’s agenda.

NUP has urged Alien Skin and his associates to reflect on their actions, warning that history has shown how such behavior often backfires.

Fangone Forest CEO Alien Skin and gang invade NUP headquarters, no property damaged

Fangone Forest CEO and singer Alien Skin, alongside his gang, made an uninvited appearance at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere-Kavule.

Despite the tension, no property was reported damaged during the incident.

However, the act has been interpreted by many as a provocation, especially given Alien Skin’s known disassociation from Bobi Wine and his political camp.

The singer has repeatedly thrown verbal jabs at the NUP leader and his affiliates, making this visit seem deliberate.

In a video circulating online, one gang member is heard suggesting they beat up the security personnel at the premises.

Another, however, dismissed the idea, calming the situation. Interestingly, Alien Skin himself was the one driving the vehicle during the incident.

PHOTOS: Singleton Dinner in the Dark Redefines Culinary Adventure

Last night, history was made at Emin Pasha Hotel & Spa, as foodies and whisky enthusiasts were treated to an evening of exceptional culinary exploration at the first-ever Singleton Dinner in the Dark. The concept, revolutionary in its simplicity, invited diners to experience their meals blindfolded and without cutlery, relying solely on their hands and heightened senses to navigate the three-course feast.

The meals were by Kenyan celebrated Chef Raphael King’ori, aka Chef Raphael. He began with a spectacular starter, The Awakening, which included slow-cooked smoked beetroot and goat cheese with a Singleton whisky-infused dressing.

Poetry by the renowned Brian Alideke added a touch of artistic elegance, weaving words that resonated deeply with the guests. Each table buzzed with excitement as diners embraced the challenge of relying on every sense but sight.

Dinner in the Dark also served a noble purpose, with proceeds to be donated to the Association of the Blind Uganda. This support event highlighted the often-overlooked aspect of dining for the visually impaired, who miss out on the visual presentation of food but experience it in other profound ways.

Guests not only left with satisfied palates, but also with a renewed perspective on the sensory experience of food, as well as deeper empathy for the blind community.

Azawi criticises UCC for stifling creativity and hindering Uganda’s night economy

Azawi has taken a bold stand against the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), accusing it of undermining the country’s potential for a thriving night economy.

Through a statement shared on her X account, Azawi expressed frustration over what she termed as outdated policies and short-sighted regulations that hinder Uganda’s creative industry and economic growth.

Azawi lamented that Uganda operates on a single shift, with most activities ending by midnight. She argued that this stifles economic growth, limits tax revenue, and curtails job creation.

Uganda is a country that goes to bed at midnight, at best—and yet we wonder why we fail to collect enough taxes or create enough jobs.

Drawing comparisons with neighboring countries like Rwanda and Tanzania, Azawi pointed out their deliberate efforts to boost the creative industry.

Rwanda, for instance, has successfully positioned itself as a global entertainment hub by hosting international superstars such as Kendrick Lamar and John Legend. Tanzania, on the other hand, recently outbid Rwanda to host the Trace Awards.

These countries understand the value of a 24-hour economy. They are keeping their nations open round the clock, creating jobs, driving tourism, and increasing tax revenues.

Azawi criticized UCC and other regulators for imposing restrictive policies that hinder the growth of Uganda’s creative sector.

Instead of enabling growth, they stifle it with rigid regulations, shutting down concerts, festivals, and nightlife that are proven economic drivers.

Concerts, events, nightclubs, and entertainment are not just recreation; they are businesses. They employ thousands, generate millions in revenue, and provide opportunities for people to earn a living after traditional working hours.

Azawi urged the government and UCC to adopt a forward-thinking approach by investing in creative infrastructure.

She proposed revitalizing the National Theatre, building modern venues in major cities, and promoting Kampala as a 24-hour economy.

UCC’s mandate should not simply be to regulate but to enable growth. Every shutdown, every ban stifles opportunities for jobs, partnerships, and national revenue.

Stop killing creativity. Stop forcing a nation to sleep. Let Uganda work 24 hours a day.
