Shakira Shakiraa has responded to allegations made by Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, the Vice Chairperson of the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), who accused her and other female artists of promoting nudity and obscenity in their performances.

Shakira claims that Phina’s comments come from jealousy over the current generation of female musicians and their confidence in embracing their bodies.

Phina, while announcing UNCC’s move to shadow ban songs by Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo for vulgarity, mentioned that female musicians such as Shakira Shakiraa, Gloria Bugie, and Ritah Danchall, who engage in nudity, would also face scrutiny.

However, Shakira dismissed the criticism, arguing that Phina is not in a position to judge others’ morality given her own past.

Shakira said that after reviewing Phina’s music career, she discovered that the former artist wasn’t as morally upright as she portrays herself to be now.

She accused Phina of modeling her career after Colombian superstar Shakira, adopting provocative dances, revealing outfits, and a lifestyle that wasn’t widely accepted in Uganda at the time.

I think she’s just jealous of the young, sexy, and beautiful musicians. When I decided to pay attention to her accusations, I realized she wasn’t as holy as she claims to be.

She idolized Colombian singer Shakira—her dances, dress code, and lifestyle weren’t plausible either. The difference is that Ugandans have embraced us now, and we are earning, unlike her.
