Ssenga Justine Nantume has opened up about an unfortunate romantic experience with a ‘musama’ that completely shifted her perspective on relationships.
Ssenga Nantume shared that she once got involved with a musama—a term used to describe Ugandans working or living abroad, particularly in Europe or America. The relationship, however, turned out to be a nightmare, leaving her with a sour taste for men from abroad.
Reflecting on it, Ssenga Nantume said the experience was so traumatic that it influenced her choice of partners. She now prefers dating men with practical professions, such as builders, mechanics, farmers, or fishermen, whom she believes are more grounded and honest.
Without naming the individual, whom she described as now being popular in Uganda, Ssenga Nantume recounted an incident involving money. She revealed that the musama gave her $2 or $3, and at the time, she believed she had struck gold.
I even called my brother in the village and told him I had got enough money to buy land.
However, her excitement quickly turned to disappointment when she went to a forex bureau to exchange the dollars.
The amount they offered shocked me. I thought they wanted to steal my money, so I left and went to another forex bureau. Same story. I finally went to Arua Park and asked a lady how much it was worth, and she told me the same thing.
I felt so hurt that I walked all the way from Arua Park to Ndeeba.
