Queen of Dancehall Spice has responded to several criticisms hurled at her by Mr. Vegas regarding the trajectory of her career and her marketing strategies.

In an interview with DancehallMag, Spice hit back at the fellow entertainer who has accused her of being ‘washed up’ and using tacky publicity stunts to promote her new music.

“You can quote me and say I don’t wanna talk about Vegas. I know he’s probably on his period right now and he’s going through a lot. He’s very emotional to see a female having more accolades than him. He’s just going through a phase of jealousy, but I hope he gets over it soon,” she said

In a June Facebook post, the Tek Weh Yuhself singer labeled Spice mediocre and alleged that she was merely the beneficiary of Lady Saw’s conversion to Christianity. He also blasted Spice for entertaining a flamboyant “bestie” during her recent Unruly Fest performance in the UK last weekend.

In response to opposition to her marketing techniques, Spice said she does not understand the bashing she gets because they have proven successful so far.

“What is publicity stunt, though? Can you define it?” she asked rhetorically.

“I’m confused when people talk about publicity stunts because marketing is in every business and I think people contradict the term ‘publicity stunt’ sometimes when you’re marketing your projects. Even when people comment sometimes and say, ‘oh, she’s just doing this to stay relevant’ I thought that was my job. I thought being consistent and being relevant was my job. It’s a part of my journey and career and what I’m supposed to do. So, I’m getting confused,” she told DancehallMag.

Spice added, “These comments are coming from haters who can’t do what I’m doing, (and those) who are not able to think of the things that I think of or are not as creative as me and aren’t able to be relevant to remain consistent. You have to make it make sense… when I market my songs, it is my job. I’m supposed to get my music out there. I’m marketing for my campaigns and if I can do it better than you then I don’t understand why it’s a problem.”

Spice had previously sparked skin-bleaching rumours after posting a light-skinned photo of herself in 2018. She later revealed it was a ploy to highlight colorism, addressed in her song Black Hypocrisy.

Her latest tracks are 2085 Tea, which reimagines Spice as an elderly woman reflecting on the strides and scandals associated with her career, Round Round, a collab with Busta Rhymes, and Ex Boyfriend, which tackles the issues of domestic violence and toxicity in relationships.

The three songs will appear on Spice’s third album Mirror 25,  which will be released on August 9. The 25-track project marks her Silver Anniversary in music.
