Uganda National Musicians’ Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo, has provided an update on the long awaited Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Through a statement shared on his social media platforms, Kenzo revealed that the bill has successfully passed a key milestone.
I’m glad to inform you that the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was returned from the Parliamentary Counsel and has been approved and overwhelmingly supported by Cabinet today.
Kenzo further explained the next steps in the legislative process. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs will now publish the bill in the Gazette and introduce it to Parliament for debate and enactment.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has issued a Certificate of Financial Implication to expedite the process.
Kenzo expressed hope that the new legislation could be a Christmas gift for Ugandan creatives.
Our wish of having the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2024, as a Christmas gift, I think, has been fulfilled.
I thank all of you for the support, love, and prayers.
