Patricia Nabakooza shared a sad account of her tough upbringing in Kawempe, where she and her family endured hardships, including being evicted from their home by former State Minister for Lands, Hon. Erios Nantaba.
In an interview with Ruth Kalibbala, Patricia revealed how her parents, Justine Ndagire and John Ssempijja, struggled to provide for their family.
Her father worked as a taxi conductor, but his income was barely enough to cover their basic needs. Despite these challenges, Patricia’s mother found innovative ways to support the family.
Since I knew how to dance, my mother would take me to rallies, concerts, and gatherings to perform so we could earn some money.
The family’s financial difficulties, however, came to a head when they fell behind on rent payments for a house owned by Hon. Nantaba.
Time came when our rent arrears had accumulated, and Nantaba decided to throw our belongings out in the middle of the night. She came earlier in the day and instructed her manager to kick us out. We lived on the streets with my parents and my siblings. That memory can never leave my mind.
Despite these struggles, Patricia’s parents prioritized their children’s education and worked tirelessly to make ends meet.
